Summary:
Six years ago, Hiriluk discovered a reindeer that he discovered could talk and named him Tony Tony Chopper. Meanwhile, the commander of the royal army, Dalton, expressed concern over the state of the country, recalling his time in Levely, where Wapol’s immature actions contrasted with the mature grace of ten-year-old Nefertari Vivi. Hiriluk wished to cure the people of Drum Island of all their ailments, including those in their hearts, and Chopper decided to help him despite his wishes. They worked together for a year, but after Chopper was fully healed, Hiriluk forced him to return to the wild.
Three days after his rescue, Hiriluk discovered that the reindeer could talk. He wondered why he was silent and the reindeer said that talking would make the doctor hate him because he was shot the last time he spoke. Hiriluk saw no problem with the reindeer talking, and the two were forced to evacuate outside when one of Hiriluk’s chemical containers exploded. Hiriluk was happy to see that the reindeer was okay after the explosion and named him Tony Tony Chopper for his strong horns that could fell a tree. Chopper liked the name.
As Wapol descends the mountain and ponders what new laws to enact, Royal Army Commander Dalton is met by Chess and Kuromarim, who notice that Levely has been acting strangely since returning from the worldwide conference. Dalton wondered if their kingdom would be the same with the growing inequality between royalty and humans, but Chess and Kuromarimo saw no problem. They argued that Wapolo’s stricter method of ruling was for the good of the country, but Dalton told them about a girl he met on the Levely. In Mary Geoise, where the event was held, King Thalassa Lucas held up a picture of a revolutionary dragon and warned that in five to six years it would be a great danger to the world. Wapol blasted him, seeing no danger to his kingdom. King Nefertari Cobra of Arabasta reprimanded Wapol for his selfishness, and after meeting Wapol under the guise of an accidental bump, struck his young daughter Vivi. Igaram flew into a rage, but Vivi stopped him and claimed responsibility for the altercation. Dalton was very impressed with the young princess’s attitude in such a volatile event and was embarrassed to hear Vivi crying from around the corner when she was alone with Igaram. On Drum Island, however, Chess and Kuromarimo didn’t think much of the action and told Dalton not to mix emotions with politics.
As Hiriluk experimented with the chemicals, he told Chopper to hate the people on the island for banishing them, saying they had a disease in their hearts. He told Chopper about a thief from the far west who was going around looking for a cure for his heart disease. The doctors were unable to provide a cure, so he wandered around until he came to a mountain. There he saw beautiful cherry blossoms and the doctor later found out that his disease was completely cured. Hiriluk believed that there was no disease that could not be cured and declared that he would become his Jolly Roger in the fight against every disease that threatened the people of the country. Chopper was intrigued by the Jolly Roger, and Hiriluk said it was a symbol of faith, encouraging him to one day reach other parts of the world and see how small his problem really is. Hiriluk told Chopper to go home to recuperate while he treated the patients, but Chopper wanted to help him. They heard that a patient needed a cure from a fungus, but were immediately chased away after trying to give him lizard eyes. Hiriluk and Chopper were chased by everyone they tried to help, at one point kicking the former into the crowd to act as bait. After nearly dying, Chopper returned to Hiriluk’s base. He was angry with the Doctor, but Hiriluk insisted that Chopper should never have followed him on his missions. However, he gave Chopper a pink top hat as an apology, which caused the reindeer to tear up. Hiriluk and Chopper did everything together for a year until Chopper finally recovered. Hiriluk had no intention of taking care of him and Chopper begged to stay with the doctor, but Hiriluk shot him and told him to never come back. As Chopper ran away, Hiriluk sobbed, hoping the reindeer would forgive him.
